The inhibition of ferroxidase by trivalent and other metal ions.

چکیده
The inhibitory effects of trivalent and other metal ions on f erroxidase (ceruloplasmin EC 1.12.3.1.) activity were investigated. All trivalent cations tested inhibited ferroxidase activity but the strongest inhibitors had an ionic radius of 0.81 A or less. The inhibition by Al(III) was found to be mixed competitive and uncompetitive with respect to the substrate, Fe(I1). The uncompetitive feature of the inhibition was not due to competition by Al(II1) with the other substrate, oxygen. A mechanism for the mixed inhibition by AI(II1) is proposed consistent with these results. A comparison of the strong cationic inhibitors provides the following metal ion series in order of decreasing effectiveness of inhibition: In(III) > ZrO(I1) > Al(III) > Sc(III) > Ga(m)

متن کاملSynergistic Influence of Benzoate Ions on Inhibition of Corrosion of Mild Steel in 0.5m Sulfuric Acid by Benzotriazole
The influence of benzoate anions on the corrosion inhibition effect of benzotriazole (BTA) for mild steel in sulfuric acid has been investigated. The investigation was carried out by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and potentiodynamic polarization techniques. The addition of benzoate ions greatly enhances the inhibition efficiency of BTA in a synergistic manner. This effect has bee...
متن کاملIdentification of the ferroxidase centre of Escherichia coli bacterioferritin.
The bacterioferritin (BFR) of Escherichia coli takes up iron in the ferrous form and stores it within its central cavity as a hydrated ferric oxide mineral. The mechanism by which oxidation of iron (II) occurs in BFR is largely unknown, but previous studies indicated that there is ferroxidase activity associated with a site capable of forming a dinuclear-iron centre within each subunit [Le Brun...

Phosphoryl containing ligand tri-n-octylphosphine oxide (TOPO) in dichloromethane has been used as an extracting agent for tetravalent thorium and trivalent europium ions from their 1 M sodium nitrates. The equilibrium data reveal that both ions are extracted as the complexes at 1:3 metal/ligand ratio. The values of conditional extraction equilibrium constant (Kex) show the superior extract...
